What if he gets injured stopping the crime or lose life doing that, what would you do? Would you pay him or his family so that they can cover their expenses all life? If you realize that's the problem, If you really want a strong (physical and mental) chaukidaar, pay him decent and respect his work. However, you must realize that these guys are merely minor deterrants and witnesses or observers. If some armed thugh decides to rob an apartment - these guys will not be capable of doing anything to stop him. Maybe they will shout a bit and raise the alarm. But directly stop him - no. Inspite of this - they serve a purpose and they have to make a living. What kind of life will this guy have with 200 rupees for an entire month? Will that even cover his food? Or are you paying 200 and that's part of a contribution (from other people in the vicinity) - I sure hope so.
